The WDS SmartMould is a measuring mould for detection and monitoring mechanical influencing variables on the polycarbonate mould in chocolate plants, e.g. for the following areas of application:
- Recording of uneven process conditions
- Mapping of the positions with the strongest stresses on the mould
- Precise overview of mechanical influences that occur in the plant
- Reduction of mould wear
The SmartMould is an ordinary polycarbonate mould that is prepared with sensors and measuring technology and passes through your chocolate plant from the mould's perspective. This means that the entire plant, including areas that are difficult to see such as the refrigerator, demoulding station and vibration, can be inspected. By recording the entire plant, the data can be analysed better than with data collection using statically installed sensors.

Data collection
Sensors are used according to customer requirements:
- 1x triaxial acceleration sensor with ±15 g (impulse force and vibration)
- 1x triaxial acceleration sensor with ±200 g (impulse force and vibration)
- 1x triaxial gyro sensor with max. 2000°/s (position detection)
- 1x triaxial magnetometer (magnetic field detection)
- 6x temperature with 0.02 degree Celsius resolution (temperature)
- 8x compensated strain gauges (strain)
- Optional additional sensors, e.g. humidity/air pressure sensor
Highlights of the SmartMould
Protected sensor technology
The entire electronics, including the wiring, are poured with resin and are therefore protected.
HMI integration
The recorded data is checked immediately and the results are displayed in the HMI.
DeepField software
Detailed insights into the data with many options for sensor selection, zooming and panning.
Application example: non-parallel chains
The SmartMould recognises chain transitions with non-parallel chains by the fact that the mould rotates around the vertical axis.
Application example: temperature curve in the refrigerator
The SmartMould continuously supplies temperature data when it moves through the refrigerator. That was already different several times than previously thought!
Application example: cross-plant comparison
Vibration sections, demoulding stations and cross outs are compared across all plants. Customers are notified of extraordinary loads.
